Takeaway overload

A strange set of circumstances has arisen and I’ve arrived at a point where reality has crushed a dream - even if your dream was just a minor silly one that the adult in you always knew wouldn’t work and even the sensible voice in a Child’s head could have quashed.

There is such a thing as too much TAKEAWAY!

When you live in an area where access to takeaway is limited (albeit much of what’s available is very good) then you dream of some of the takeaway favourites that used to be a fairly regular treat.

There are some truths about takeaway/takeout foods that I have had to learn along the way - and once learned it helps to keep the mistakes at bay. One of these is that Chinese food does not travel that well - face the facts we order it all the time but it just isn’t the same as eating it served straight from the wok. Another is that Indian Food travels REALLY well - and has delicious side dishes which make it altogether a much more ceremonial and tasty takeaway dinner.

And as for chips …. Italian Chipper chips are amazing in that they travel well and will even be tasty cold an hour later! But all other chips don’t travel at all.

Reasons for Take Out - here’s an arguable ‘Top 10’

  1. When there is a family emergency and you need a distraction

  2. When Ant and Dec are launching or wrapping up some Jungle Action

  3. After you’ve just pulled off Day 5 of some exhausting overtime

  4. It’s mid week and you are stressed and have plenty of healthy food in the fridge that you COULD cook … but you just want to drink wine and be bold on a week night

  5. Some kind of Hormonal situation

  6. You have a hangover that only food can cure or at least momentarily distract you from..

  7. Somewhere new just opened and you’ve been told you HAVE to try it.

  8. You’ve friends coming over but ‘it’s casual’

  9. It’s Snowing

  10. There’s a global pandemic and you have no cooker, going to a friend or relative is risking your life, and theirs, and sitting in a restaurant is ‘against the law’ (except that its not actually a law but there is some kind of system or agreement that’s working for the moment but could get aggressive in future but we are ignoring that for now and for the most part everyone is on board.)

Now some of these reasons are applicable to other situations -

2 can apply to eating lots of treats

5 can apply to eating the contents of the fridge and or having a row

9 can apply to waking up everyone in the house at an ungodly early hour

…… but 10 …. this is where I find myself and this is new territory!!!

Bear in mind that there was an upside to my 10 … as I said .. I have had yearnings for certain foods that could not be met for the last few years as I don’t live near a city - but I hit 10 when I was in Dublin. And surely a capital city is the best city in the country for take home food options … it’s game on!

Except I’m not enjoying the game…. It’s DAY 5 of eating takeaway food an I’m yearning for a Spud.
